STATEMENT A camera is a ticket to enter the lives of strangers. I’m a voyeur, an outsider looking in. But by allowing people to reveal their complexity I aspire to collaborate and enable self-expression. I marvel at the play of the extraordinary in the ordinary. I want to embrace the differences not only between people but within them. I want to know their desires, fantasies and self-perceptions. My work can be considered a backlash against my schooling where homogeneity was enforced. To work with people you have to be spontaneous and flexible. I work without prejudgement and capture the unexpected, fleeting and potentially invisible. The process can start with overhearing an image conjured in words that excites my curiosity - I was told once that, “I had an ear for the visual”.
